Question: Write a drama script which offers a new or different understanding about a character from the parent text. Answer: Acknowledgement of Assistance Source Nature of Assistance Tutor Provided analytical guidance so that I can understand the genre clearly and at the same time could improve my script Mother Read the initial draft of the play and pointed out those key areas, where I should make changes, and logically explained me, why I should bring changes in that area. My Friend Helped me to construct the character of the Colored Woman in a proper way and asked me to keep in mind certain socio-cultural factors, especially at the time when the play was written My Sister She helped me in constructing the character of Eunice and the things I should include, to improve the characterization. The Script [Two women, one white and one colored,..continued] The continuation of the scene Eunice: So how you are doing these days? Colored Woman: Well, I think if we say that we are doing good, it would be good for us. Eunice: (laughs) Well, said. Wish I would have the chance to say the same thing, but I do not believe creating a world where everything is fair and fine. Colored Woman: Whats troubling you? Eunice: My peaceful neighbors? Colored Woman: I believe that you want your neighbors to be less peaceful. Eunice: I do not know, may be, [pause], I believe that if you are married you say goodbye to peace. Colored Woman: Isnt that an awful thing to say. If you ask me then I would say peace leaves you when you give less importance to humanity. Eunice: You know a lot about peace. Colored Woman: Yes, I know lot about it. I am leaving in peace now, in this metropolitan. [They remain silent for a moment; the Colored Woman took a deep breath and looked above. She was thinking about something very deeply, Eunice, closed her eyes, she, put her fingers in her hairs and the expression was telling that she was actually relaxing at that moment. Few moments passed, the two women, remained silent for few moments and then they again began their conversation.] Eunice: They started again, yesterday, I am getting tired and irritated of the noise that is being created. Already the apartments are awful and now if there are noises and smashing of things all the time, then things become unbearable. Colored Woman: I do not know how the two people live in that one place with so much of mess and noise. Eunice: (laughs loudly) I do not believe they live there. Oh no! I believe that it is a place of the Man, where the woman, only has the permission to carry on with her human body. Colored Woman: Well, in this world, the one with the power and strength, live; and the other, who, does not have that power, granted a permission to keep their human body alive. They should accept this condition, as a peaceful setting, and if they fail to accept it then they should live the setting, or they would be forced to do such a thing. Eunice: I guess you are right. However, I some time think the weak should at least speak for speak for them. [The Colored Women sighed and remain silent for a long time. Eunice, took a deep breath, she hold her hair tightly and then release it. She lay back when she, heard a beautiful music. Above the music of the "Blue Piano" the voices of people on the street can be heard overlappingcontinued]. The Feedback and Reflection I think that the scene that is being added in this particular script requires only two people and not much props are required to carry out this activity. Therefore, I can say that I am well prepared to do this particular task. The scene that has been added to this particular script actually helps the reader to construct the relationship that is there between Stella and Stanley. The relationship that actually gives a shock to Blanche comes as an unpredictable thing to the audience but the thing is something that is familiar to the neighbors of Stanley and Stella. A close reading of the text made me think they too may be affected by this relationship and there should be something that should reflect this fact. Moreover, the issue of the Colored Women and Men, in the socio-cultural context is something that should have a reflection at the same time in the script. My teacher too supported my viewpoint and asked me to carry on with the script. I manage time, after my school, during the ni ght, when everyone is asleep and there is no sound anywhere. At that time, I could hear what Eunice and the Colored Woman were actually speaking.
